Introduction
PSE certification is a mandatory safety certification in Japan, used to prove that motor and electronic products have passed safety standard tests under the Japanese Electrical and Material Safety Law (DENAN Law) or international IEC standards. According to Japan's DENTORL Law (Electrical Appliance and Material Control Law), 506 products entering the Japanese market must pass safety certification. Among them, 165 A-class products should obtain the diamond shaped PSE logo, and 341 B-class products should obtain the circular PSE logo.
Since April 1, 2001, the Electrical Product Control Law (DENTORL) has been officially renamed as the Electrical Product Safety Law (DENAN). Unlike the control of contractual provisions in previous regulatory systems, the new system will be ensured by unofficial organizations to ensure product safety.
Basic information of PSE certification
Mandatory: Compulsory
Certificate validity period: For diamond shaped products, 3-7 years, based on the product. For circular shapes, without expiration date or certificate, only VOC can be issued
Factory inspection requirements: For diamond shaped products, only the first factory inspection is required, without annual inspection. For circular shapes, there are no factory inspection requirements
Holder requirements: For diamond shaped products, factory/importer. For circular shapes, no requirements
Technical information: Voltage frequency AC 100V, 50Hz/60Hz, plug JIS 8303
Certification classification
According to the Japanese Electrical Product Safety Act, PSE certification is divided into two categories.
PSE Diamond Certification: Among them, there are 165 products that are prone to causing accidents such as electric shock and fire, and are classified as "specific electrical products - called Class A electrical products", such as chargers, adapters, etc;
PSE circular certification: The remaining 341 products with lower harm are classified as "non-specific electrical products - referred to as Class B electrical products", with the vast majority of small and medium-sized household appliances, lighting products, lithium batteries, etc.
Applicable product scope
Diamond shaped PSE
Among them, wires, wiring appliances, current limiters, transformers, stabilizers, electric heating appliances, electric power application machinery, AC electrical machinery, portable generators, other AC machinery, wire conduits, small AC motors, light sources and light source application machinery, batteries, etc. belong to the product scope specified in the Specific Electrical Appliance Safety Law. For example, there are 165 products such as DC power supply devices, switches and sockets, electric water heaters, power cords and plugs, and other household appliance transformers (AC-AC power products).
Circular PSE
Products outside the scope of specific electrical appliance safety laws include: electric blankets, electric steamers, electric hair permers, electric ovens, microwave ovens, hair humidifiers, refrigerators, electric mixers, electric egg cookers, electric insulated basins, hair dryers, electric humidifiers, projectors, washing machines, incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, desk lamps, decorative lamps, advertising lights, lithium batteries, and all 341 products such as LED bulbs and LED lighting fixtures.
Application Process
1. The customer prepares samples and materials to submit to the testing agency
2. Testing will be conducted in the laboratory of the testing institution. If it is a PSE circular shape, a declaration letter will be issued by NTEK
3. For PSE diamond, factory inspection is still required
4. After passing the testing and factory inspection, the issuing agency issues a PSE diamond certificate

6. Specification sheet for transformer and coil components

9. Japanese nameplates and warning signs (including PSE logo and supplier name notification)
10. Structural Data Table
11. List and calibration certificates used in factory production (for factory inspection)
12. Testing provides samples: Depending on the standards applied for and the certification body, 5pcs are usually provided with CB, and 10pcs are provided without CB.
Other
Certification cycle
Depending on the application criteria and certification body, it usually takes 4-6 weeks with CB and around 6-10 weeks without CB. (The situation where the information is complete and the samples do not need to be rectified)
Certificate Validity Period
Diamond PSE certificate: available for 3, 5, and 7 years (depending on the product)
Circular PSE certificate: usually self declared by the factory or a test report issued by a third-party laboratory/certification body
