The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is a government department in Canada responsible for overseeing and enforcing energy efficiency regulations - regulations that set minimum energy performance levels for various energy consuming products, label energy consuming products, and collect energy usage data.
All regulated products imported into Canada for sale or lease, or transferred from a manufacturing province to another region (inter provincial transportation), shall meet the energy efficiency standards specified in the Energy Efficiency Regulations. Therefore, Natural Resources Canada requires that all regulated products must obtain an energy efficiency certification mark from a certification body accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
Applicable product scope
Washing machine, dryer, integrated dry cleaning machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, ice maker, air conditioner, three-phase induction motor, lighting fixtures, television, power supply, gas water heater, fuel water heater, gas heater, gas fireplace, etc.
After June 13, 2019, battery charging products entering the Canadian market must meet Canada's mandatory NRCan certification and online submission requirements. At the same time, subsequent certification agencies will conduct annual market sampling, with a sampling ratio of approximately 1% for Basic models
Enhanced the requirements and control scope of the "minimum energy efficiency standards" for the following 7 types of products:
Electric motor;
Household gas boilers;
Household kerosene boiler;
Dry type transformer;
Large scale air conditioning facilities and heat pumps;
Commercial all-in-one refrigerator;
Self reflective incandescent lamp;
New requirements have been proposed for the minimum energy efficiency standards and reporting matters of the following products:
Standby energy consumption of electronic products
-Audio products
-TV, monitor, etc
-Video playback products
external power supply
Digital TV adapter
Electric boiler
Single dimensional air conditioning and heat pump
Mandatory directives for manufacturers and importers
All manufacturers and importers must comply with this directive to ensure that the products they produce and import meet the minimum energy efficiency standards required by the directive. Manufacturers and importers should obtain compliance energy efficiency reports and certificates through testing by recognized third-party certification bodies
