FCC
ETL is the abbreviation for ETL Testing Laboratories Inc, founded by Thomas Edison in 1896. It is a nationally recognized laboratory (NRTL) accredited by OSHA (Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration) in the United States. After more than 100 years, the ETL logo has been widely recognized and accepted by major retailers in North America, and enjoys a high reputation like UL. The ETL mark is the exclusive mark of Intertek, the world's leading quality and safety organization. The ETL inspection mark indicates that any electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical product that bears the ETL inspection mark has been tested and meets relevant industry standards.

Scope of Certification
ETL SEMKO is part of Intertek Testing Services, the world's largest product and commodity inspection organization, with 240 laboratories and 469 offices in 93 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia. ETL SEMKO provides testing and certification for product safety, EMC testing, product performance testing, as well as testing for industries such as pharmaceuticals HVAC、 Registration of quality management systems for various industries such as appliances, telecommunications, aviation, automation, semiconductors, building materials, and energy generation systems.
Any electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical product bearing the ETL inspection mark indicates that it has been tested and meets relevant industry standards. Every industry has different testing standards, so it is important to consult professionals for specific product requirements. The ETL inspection mark is widely used in cable products, indicating that relevant tests have been passed.
In most regions of the United States, approval of electrical products is mandatory. ETL refers to ETL Testing Laboratories Inc. ETL's listed products are recognized by the 'Authorities Having Jurisdiction' and can be considered 'approved'.
The difference between ETL and UL
1. UL and ETL both represent products that have passed the testing of National Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL) and meet the corresponding safety standards.
2. ETL certification and UL certification have the same market access effect in North America, but the cost of ETL certification is much lower than UL certification, generally only half of UL certification. Moreover, ETL certified product testing can be converted through CB test reports, which can save you a lot of testing costs.
3. ETL certification also takes much less time than UL certification. In special circumstances, ETL can issue certificates first and then conduct factory inspections to save valuable time for the export of your products.
4. UL is the most authoritative certification in the United States, with UL being an American company and ITS being a British company.
application materials
There are currently two ways to obtain an ETL certificate: one is to transfer it through a CB test report, and the other is to apply directly. The required documents are as follows:
1. Application Form
2. Copy of CB test certificate (not required for direct application)
3. Copy of CB test report (not required for direct application)
4. Samples (4-8 pieces)
5. Other relevant test results and product data, such as product description, photos, component list, product performance and specifications, circuit schematics, etc. (If converted through CB report, differential testing is required)

advantage | Domestic organization in the United States, with the highest level of recognition among established certification bodies in the US and Canada regions | International certification bodies, authoritative and affordable, also recognized by NRTL in the United States | Domestic institutions in the United States with high recognition |
disadvantage | Because it is an established institution, testing, factory inspection, and filing fees are the highest and the cycle is longer | Brand awareness in the North American market is slightly lower than UL | Slightly less well-known than UL in the North American market |
