Introduction to VerpackG in Germany

VerpackG is a German packaging law that replaces the previous German packaging regulation VerpackV. VerpackG is suitable for all manufacturers, importers, distributors, and online retailers selling goods in the German market. All companies selling goods in Germany must prepare solutions for packaging recycling after use to continue trading in the country.

The new packaging law VerpackG in Germany requires manufacturers and sellers to register and obtain permission for the first sale of products containing packaging, including outer packaging, final retail packaging, disposable containers/containers used in the catering industry, and transportation packaging materials. Companies must also declare the type and weight of packaging materials sold.

LUCID Management System

This law applies to all packaging. Through the central database, manufacturers and waste management system companies can be better managed, more transparent, and the physical and chemical requirements should be consistent with the old packaging regulations

Try to use minimal packaging as much as possible

Suggest marking material abbreviations according to the packaging material, such as PET, PVC, PAP, ALU, FE, GL, TEX

The total amount of lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium shall not exceed 100 mg/kg

Application Process

1. Importers register online in the LUCID center database before entering the market;

2. After obtaining the registration number, participate in signing contracts with the system company;

3. Fill in the data signed with the system company into the LUCID central database;

4. Data inspection and comparison.

Registration materials

Required documents for VerpackG registration:

1. Name, address, and contact information of the registered entity;

2. ID number of the representative, including the European or national tax number of the manufacturer;

3. Brand names that participate in packaging according to mandatory systems;

4. Announce that the manufacturer is fulfilling its recycling responsibilities and that the details provided are true.
