Basic Introduction
To improve the environmental performance of energy consuming products and control ecological pollution. The European Union officially issued the Ecological Requirements Directive 2009/125/EC for energy related products on October 31, 2009, known as the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive "Establishing a Framework for Ecological Design Requirements for Energy related Products". It is a revised directive of the EuPhoria (Energy using Products) Directive (2005/32/EC) and came into effect on November 10, 2009.
ErP Directive
In order to improve the EuP Directive 2005/32/EC and further expand its scope, the European Union officially issued the Ecological Requirements Directive 2009/125/EC for Energy related products on October 31, 2009. This directive sets out the framework for ecological design requirements for Energy related products. Starting from November 20, 2009, the ErP Directive 2009/125/EC replaced the original EuP Directive (2005/32/EC, 2008/28/EC).
The IM based on the EuP instruction will also be converted into the IM of this instruction.
ErP instruction product range
Like EuP, the ErP directive does not apply to transportation vehicles for people and goods.
In addition to the energy consuming products covered by the original EuP directive, such as simple set-top boxes, televisions, external power sources, fluorescent lamps without integral ballasts, gas discharge lamp ballasts, and lamps using such lamps and ballasts, non directional household lamps, directional lamps, LED lamps, lamps, lamp controllers (including LED drivers and electronic transformers), dimmers and sensors, motors, household refrigeration appliances, circulation pumps, other energy storage products such as windows, insulation materials, or water products (such as shower heads, faucets, etc.) are also included.
Implementation Rules for ErP Instructions
The ErP instruction is not a product specific instruction, but only a framework instruction. According to the relevant provisions of this directive, the EU has further developed a directive on the ecological design requirements that certain types of energy consuming products must comply with, called the "Implementing Measures" or IM. The implementing measures that have been promulgated and implemented are as follows:
The ecological design requirements for power consumption of electronic and electrical equipment for home and office use before shutdown (No. 1275/2008) were issued in December 2008 and implemented on January 7, 2010.
2. The requirements for the ecological design of simple set-top boxes (No. 107/2009) were released in February 2009 and implemented on February 25, 2010.
3. The ecological design requirements for non directional household lamps (No. 244/2009) were issued in March 2009 and implemented on September 1, 2009.
4. Ecological design requirements for fluorescent lamps, high-intensity discharge lamps, their ballasts, and lighting fixtures without integrated ballasts (No. 245/2009) were issued in March 2009 and implemented on April 13, 2010.
5. The requirements for the ecological design of external power sources (No. 278/2009) were issued in April 2009 and implemented on April 27, 2010.
6. The ecological design requirements for electric motors (No. 640/2009) were issued in July 2009 and implemented on June 16, 2010.
7. The ecological design requirements for independent shaft seal free circulators (No. 641/2009) were issued in August 2009 and implemented on January 1, 2010.
8. The ecological design requirements for televisions (No. 642/2009) were released in July 2009 and implemented on January 7, 2010.
9. Ecological Design Requirements for Household Refrigeration Equipment (No. 643/2009) was issued in July 2009 and implemented on July 1, 2010.
10. Household washing machines (No. 1015/2010) were released in November 2010 and implemented on December 1, 2011.
11. Household Dishwasher (No. 1016/2010) was released in November 2010 and implemented on December 1, 2011.
12. Household dryer (No. 932/2012) was released in October 2012 and implemented on November 1, 2013.
The motor-driven fan (No. 327/2011) with an input power range between 125 W and 500 KW was released in April 2011 and implemented on April 6, 2011.
The ecological design requirements for directional lights, LED lights, and related equipment (No. 1194/2012) were issued in December 2012 and implemented on September 1, 2013.
ErP authentication steps
1. Compliance assessment
According to the requirements of the ErP Directive, manufacturers can choose one of the two evaluation modes, "Internal Design Control" (Annex IV of the ErP Directive) or "Environmental Management System" (Annex V of the ErP Directive), for evaluation.
2. Organize and generate Technical Documentation (TDF)
·Manufacturers must form technical documentation
·Technical documentation should include information on design, manufacturing, operation, and final disposal of the product
·The details will be clarified through the implementation measures of each product
3. Issue Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
·Basic Information
·Follow the instructions and standards
4. Labeling with CE mark
·Coordinate standard testing - EMC, LVD, etc
·Labeling with CE mark
